ELECTRONIC ENGINE MANAGEMENT

TAKES POWER TO NEW HEIGHTS.

The 6-cylinder power plant inside every new MF 6400 Series tractor is nothing short of amazing. The latest Perkins or SISU Tier II diesel engines with Electronic Engine Management (EEM) give the 6400s increased torque across the speed range and more torque backup, all the way down to 1000 rpm. Each one is wastegate turbocharged with air-to-air charge cooling.

TIER II CLEAN AND EXTRA QUIET

Whether it's the Perkins 1106 Series or the SISU 66 ETA, you can count on it to be a highly reliable, efficient combination of fresh design and the most advanced electronics. They all meet the latest EPA specifications for TIer II compliance, so you can expect reduced emissions along with increased fuel economy. These environmentally friendly Tier II engines feature electronic fuel injection using the proven design of a Bosch VP30 electronic fuel pump. Bosch injection systems are known for their dependability, efficiency, easy maintenance and great cold-start ability.

These engines are also some of the quietest you've ever experienced-up to 3 decibels quieter than Tier I engines. A single-piece cast iron block allows for a very narrow frame, which gives your MF 6400 the added benefits of a very tight turning radius and superior line of sight. What's more, engine service intervals are a labor-saving 500 hours.

ADVANCED CONTROLS

A wide constant power range assures you the availability of full engine horsepower at full rpm.

Engine speed control is an option which lets you program in a pair of engine speeds (A and B) using a rocker switch on the right-hand console, and go back and forth between them. For example, touch button A for your pre-set plowing speed. When you reach the headland, a touch of button B reduces the engine speed for turning.

THE LATEST PERKINS DIESELS

Perkins 1106 Series 6-liter engines power the MF 6465, 6475 and 6480 models. In addition to the proven Perkins FastramTM combustion system, these latest-generation engines feature an improved ground timing gear for quieter operation and a new, reliability-boosting rear oil seal. Pistons and cylinder heads have been designed for increased combustion, power and fuel efficiency. Of course, there are all the other features that have contributed to the long and successful track record of Perkins engines in Massey Ferguson equipment and established Perkins as one of the world's leading engine manufacturers.

  • Uni-flow cylinder head ports precondition intake air entering the combustion chamber for the greatest possible efficiency.

  • Replaceable, long-lasting steel alloy valve seats and guides combine with gaskets designed to seal in combustion gases to maximize engine life and reliability.

  • Dry cylinder sleeves help keep engine durability high and maintenance expenses low by eliminating erosion from coolant cavitation.

  • The water pump is driven by the engine timing gears, doing away with the need for separate belt drives.

  • An integral oil cooler designed right into the side of the cylinder block extends service intervals while it eliminates the need for special radiators and extra hoses or fittings.

The Perkins FastramTM combustion system, with its unique piston design and combustion bowl shape, creates a "swirl" of preconditioned air within the cylinder head. An enhanced mixture of fuel and air then enters the combustion chamber in the piston crown at very high speed. This shortens the premix burn period and allows later injection, with reduced peak cylinder pressures and temperatures. The result is precisely controlled, highly efficient combustion, lower noise levels and lower fuel consumption.

NEW SISU ENGINES

The new 6.6 liter SISU engines on MF 6480, 6490 and 6495 model tractors offer more torque than ever before with increases of up to 20%. They also have cross flow heads for better fuel economy, wet liners for increased heat rejection, and a long list of features that have helped establish their record of reliability.

  • Wet cylinder sleeves are inserted separately in an open block to assure easy coolant circulation and keep your engine running at the right temperature.

  • Machined mid-support ribs on the cylinder sleeves prevent vibration during each compression explosion and protect against sleeve cavitation.

  • Cooling ribs on the cylinder sleeves' outer diameter give circulating coolant more surface contact for better heat transfer and longer engine life.

  • Dual cylinder heads mean more room for head bolts, which are pre-stressed, to help prevent head warping that can lead to coolant or combustion leaks.

  • Cross flow cylinder head design, with intake aire passages opposite exhaust outlet ports, allows for cooler, more fuel-efficient intake air.

  • Swirl intake passages on the cylinder head improve fuel-air mixing during combustion in order to meet strict emission standards.

  • Three-ring aluminum alloy pistons and bowl-shaped combustion chamber add to overall engine performance with cleaner burning and improved oil control.

  • Piston oil cooling, with nozzles directing a spray of engine oil under each piston, prolongs engine life by dissdipating heat while it controls piston ring sticking.

The SISU engine is designed with a unique machined rib in the middle of each of the wet cylinder sleeve's outside surface. The rib contacts a support point in the block to keep the sleeve from vibrating during compression and add to the SISU engine's legacy reliability.
