PERKINS DIESELS PUT PLENTY

OF POWER WHERE YOU NEED IT.

Every new MF 5400 Series tractor is powered by a Tier II emission compliant Perkins 1104 Series 4-cylinder diesel for high torque and fuel economy across a wide range of operating speeds. Perkins engines have a long and successful track record in Massey Ferguson equipment. With its solid reputation as one of the world's leading engine manufacturers and focus on the latest technology, Perkins assures uncompromising quality and reliability.

These environmentally friendly, new-generation Perkins engines include sophisticated features designed to boost performance while they reduced emissions and fuel use. For example, cross-flow cylinder heads improve combustion for less fuel consumption and minimal emissions. More precise mechanical fuel injection cuts fuel use even further, resulting in maximum economy at any speed on every job. In addition, the air intake has been placed as forward as possible for better ac3ss to cooler air, another major factor in meeting Tier II emission standards.

FASTRAMTM EFFICIENCY AND MORE

The incredible FastramTM power plant is the culmination of everything that Perkins has learned from manufacturing more than 10 million engines for agricultural, industrial and automotive use. Perkins offers the quiet efficiency of FastramTM combustion as part of a total package engineered for unequaled long-term performance. For example:

  • Uni-flow cylinder head ports, with intake and exhaust on the same side, precondition intake air entering the combustion chamber. Fuel nozzles in the cylinder head are almost vertical and very close to the piston centers. This system makes fuel injection as efficient as possible wile needing less fuel pressure and extending the life of injection components.

  • Dry cylinder sleeves help keep engine durability high and maintenance expenses low by eliminating erosion resulting from coolant cavitations. And when the time comes for rebuilding , they make it easy.

  • Viscous fan drives, which engage fully only when maximum cooling is required, reduce horsepower loss while allowing for faster warm-up in cold weather. A fluid drive clutch engages and disengages as necessary in response to a temperature sensor in the fan.

The Perkins FastramTM combustion system , with its unique piston design and combustion bowl shape, creates a "swirl" of preconditioned air within the cylinder head. An enhanced mixture of fuel and air then enters the combustion chamber in the piston crown at very high speed. This shortens the premix burn period and allows later injection, with reduced peak cylinder pressures and temperatures. The result is precisely controlled, highly efficient combustion, lower noise levels and lower fuel consumption.
