CHOOSE THE FEATURE
THAT MATCH YOUR NEEDS
|
Transmissions for the way you work On MF 400 Series, you can choose the transmission for your needs (8x2 or 8x8). The 8x2 transmission features sliding gears, providing a total of eight forward and two reverse speeds. This design is incredibly reliable and efficient, and has been proven under the most extreme conditions all over the world. An eight0-speed Synchro Shuttle transmission provides the same excellent qualities of efficiency and durability. With the four main gears being synchronized, shifts on the go will be easier. The shuttle feature will improve your cycle time where more maneuvering is required, such as loader work. For extra-slow ground speeds at full power, a creeper option is available on MF 451, 471 and 481 models. The creeper option will allow ground speed starting as low as 0.4 mph (0.6kph) at rated speed. |
The 8x8 Synchro Shuttle forward/reverse lever is conveniently located to the left for fast shuttle shifts while your right hand is free to operate loader and other controls. |

![]() The 8x8 transmission gear ratios offer well-spaced travel speeds without gaps and overlaps. You can chose the most productive - just right - gear for loader work, mowing, towing, and other jobs or when traveling from field to field. * Chart based on MF 400 Series tractor with 16.9x30 rear tires. |

Telescopic box-in-box design front axle allows easy tread setting adjustments. |
A cast-iron front axle on 4WD models provides a wide oscillation range and 50˚ turning angle for great stability and sharp turns. Open CV joints allow self-cleaning of mud and debris. |
A simple pull-lever lets you engage/disengage 4WD. With 4WD engaged, press the differential lock for positive drive to all four wheels. |
The 4WD parallel-drive design puts the front-axle drive shaft alongside the chassis for a low center of gravity with good ground clearance. |
4WD for extra performance
Experience up to 30% more traction with four0-wheel drive models, plus more available power, increased fuel efficiency and reduced soil compaction, This added traction provides sure going when working in loose or sandy soil, on muddy bottomland, through trashy minimum-till fields and around slippery feedlots.
Live and Independent PTO
A live PTO is standard on the MF 451, 471 and 481 models. It features a dual-stage clutch for stopping and changing tractor gears without disengaging the 540-rpm rear PTO. Also available (as an option) for on-the-move control of PRO implements is a 540-rpm independent PTO system. A wet-clutch provides long life and durability, while a built-in brake ensures that implements will not turn when the PTO is disengaged. A modulation valve provides smooth, progressive engagement to add service life to the PRO and implement driveline.
