Massey Ferguson 1400 Series compact tractors are powered by Iseki water-cooled diesel engines. These 3 or 4 cylinder naturally aspirated engines (with a turbocharger in the MF 1440 & 1440v) are made entirely of cast iron, with no aluminum components. This ensures durability while it gives the entire tractor maximum structural support for handling a loader or anything else that would add stress to the engine block.
Our engines exceed
EPA Tier 2 emissions standards, which helps protect you and the
environment. An indirect injection fuel system, where pre-combustion
chambers allow fuel and intake air to be pre-mixed before firing, makes
the engine run quieter and last longer. And a combination of cross-flow
cylinder head plus swirl pattern
LOW RPM PLUS HIGH TORQUE
With an rpm rating much lower than that of most other compact tractors, noise and vibration are greatly reduced. The result is less engine wear and a longer engine life. Meanwhile, regardless of the job, you’ll have plenty of torque to pull you through.
TESTED TO THE LIMIT
All MF 1400 Series tractors are manufactured to the highest standards and are subject to quality control without compromise. To make sure every tractor meets the high standards, each one is tested during and after assembly.
Testing includes submerging the tractor powertrain under water before final assembly and applying air pressure through various ports to verify that every component is free of leaks. After it’s been assembled, each tractor has to make a successful test track run to prove you can depend on it to perform.
TRANSMISSIONS TO KEEP YOU ON THE GO
MF 1400 compacts
are equipped with a full range of transmissions you can count on to keep
you up to speed while offering smoother, less tiring operation. They start
with the simplicity and reliability of the basic gear transmission and
extend to a selection you’d expect to find only on
• Gear transmissions are standard on select models (6x2) & (9x3). A constant mesh gear transmission delivers consistent performance. • Synchro-shuttle transmissions let you go nonstop from forward to reverse using the clutch. You can shuttle back and forth without coming to a complete stop. Models with 16x16 transmissions give you car-like synchronized shifting to go from gears 1-4 without stopping, and these models include creeper gears for precise work at very low speeds. On model 1429, third and fourth gears are synchronized. • PowerShuttle transmissions are the way to go if you’re doing loader work or anything else that requires a lot of forward/reverse movement, going from forward to reverse without using the clutch. On the 16x16 transmission models, gears 1-4 are synchronized to let you shift without stopping. What's more, creeper speeds are standard on these to give you precision control. On model 1429, third and fourth gears are synchronized. • Hydrostatic transmissions make operating a tractor like driving a luxury car. You don’t have to change gears to speed up, slow down or move between forward and reverse. There's even cruise control to smooth out the ride and help keep you going strong for hours.
SERIOUS PTO POWER
There’s nothing like the versatility that comes with having both mid and rear PTOs (Models 1417- 1440) available for all the implements your MF 1400 has the potential to handle. The PTO (power takeoff ) transfers power from the tractor’s engine to the implements. Depending on your tractor model and your preferences, there’s even a choice of transmission-driven, live and independent PTOs.
Transmission-driven PTO drives off the engine clutch. As you let up on the clutch pedal with the tractor in gear, the tractor will start to drive as well as the PTO. When you depress the clutch, both the tractor and PTO stop.
Live PTO uses a two-stage clutch to give you full control of attachments. Depress the clutch fully, and the PTO can be engaged. Let it up halfway, and the PTO shaft starts turning. To move the tractor, just release the clutch all the way out to its second stage. Live PTO boosts your efficiency, because you can change gears without turning it off or losing momentum.
With an independent PTO, you can engage or disengage the PTO at any time, regardless of whether the tractor is in motion or stopped and at any engine rpm range. Electro-hydraulic engagement makes PTO operation extra smooth and easy.
